We noticed a need and responded with "How can I help?"
5B (Blaine County Idaho) is an exceptional, strong, unique community filled with residents who want to help each other. We’re very lucky in this valley to have great resources for food, pet food, mental health outreach, and educational activities. However there aren’t resources for non-food items, and there is an increasing need.
E5BK wants to make sure everyone has their basic needs met.
Which is why E5BK started accepting donations of non food item necessities such as shampoo, body soap, lotion, toilet paper, dish soap, cleaning supplies, deodorant, toothbrushes/toothpaste, and more.
As the need grows, what started as a Facebook group clearly needs to grow as well. We are raising funds to complete all the steps necessary to become a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
While navigating this process, we will still be accepting physical donations, as well as financial donations.
Please contact us to arrange a physical donation. We can give you info on drop off points and/or help arrange pickup. (All using safe social distancing practices. And all items are wiped down with disinfectant wipes before delivery, and a small pack of disinfectant wipes are included so recipients can wipe them down again.
Challenging times can bring us together:
Covid-19 (Coronavirus) has offered us new challenges in keeping everyone healthy, informed, and safe. Our community was hit hard, at one point we had the highest number of positive cases per capita. But 5B rallied, came together and flattened the curve considerably.
Before the first case even hit we saw a need for people who needed help to be connected with those willing to help. March 14th (the day the first case in 5B was announced) we started the Facebook group - 5B Community Support to help with this. We quickly realized non food items were high on the list of items asked for. We worked hard to hear what people/families needed, and find donors to provide for them. In just 3 short weeks we helped almost 10 families with emergency food, toiletries, cleaning supplies, healthcare needs, and even firewood.
And, we have more work to do, now and going forward. Our food bank is serving 400% more families than they had been before. A local food co-op is doing 3-4 times more business than before and has implemented a feed your neighbor program. Crisis Hotline is reaching out to numerous families to help with mental health.
With your support E5BK can fill the need for non-food essentials, and emergency aid not covered by other agencies. We're filling the gaps to minimize how many people fall through the cracks during this crisis and beyond.
